2012 Tips on Buying a New Laptop

In the name of Allah, most Gracious, most Compassionate.


First, identify what is the purpose of your new laptop.
    1. Light work/Study
    2. Light multimedia/Light gaming
    3. Heavy multimedia/Heavy work/Heavy gaming

Laptop for Light work/Study purpose
  • Light works and study refers to the use of the laptop for light and basic softwares such as Microsoft Office Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • The laptop built for this purpose would run light softwares fluently. However some performance issues might occur if there are too many multi task at the same time.
  • Price range in January 2012: RM1000-RM1300

Laptop for Light multimedia/Light gaming purpose
  • Apart from Microsoft Office Software, the laptop built for this purpose mostly can run some heavy softwares such as ANSYS, CATIA, AUTOCAD and etc. with acceptable performance. However, for heavy analysis, big and complex design there might be some performance issue such as long loading time, processing and calculating time and the worst the programs would be unresponsive or not responding.
  • For light multimedia purpose, it also runs acceptably. Some performance issues might occur for heavy editing such as long loading time, processing and calculating time and the worst the programs would be unresponsive or not responding.
  • The laptop built for this purpose usually still can run certain games that does not require high graphic card performance such as DotA(WarCraft), C&C(Command & Conquer Generals series), Red Alert 2 series, Age of Empires 2 and 3 series(including Age of Mythology), and more.
  • Price range: RM1300-RM2700

Laptop for Heavy multimedia/Heavy work/Heavy gaming purpose
  • Enjoy your every day with this laptop built for this purpose. You wouldn't be bothered with any of those performance issues unless you got cheated or you didn't take care of it very well.  :) 
  • Price range: RM2700-$$$$$?????
